ABOUT US
A unique collaboration developed between Silk & Laine and the Ukrainian dance community to find a weaver to create custom-made fabric specifically for traditional dance costume pieces due to the lack of availability locally and in Ukraine. Silk & Laine accepted the challenge and embarked on a journey overseas where we were immersed in the splendor of antiquity and culture of Turkish textiles. Our Turkish artisan weavers are renowned for their craftsmanship and use of natural vegetable-dyed fibres. Only the finest quality 100% Turkish cotton is used. This fabric design shown can be used to create a Ukrainian traditional skirt (plakhta), an important piece to the Ukrainian dance costume OR create your own unique fashion piece! Our fabric is pre-washed and available for purchase by the metre.

TESTIMONIALS
We love it when our customers give feedback. Contact us with your review by using the contact form, emailing us at Lois@silkandlaine.ca.
"Lois was solely instrumental in researching and finding the master weaver who created our plakhta material. Lois made it her mission to find someone in Turkey who could create the plakhta look that we were currently using in Canada for our Shumka Classic Hopak costume. Lois did not disappoint! We, today have an exquisite, vibrant coloured plakhta material that we are utilizing with all the new dancers coming into the group. Bravo Lois!"
